A rhinolaryngofibroscope (flexible nasopharyngoscope) is a thin fiber-optic endoscope introduced through the nostril. Bending up to 150° in each direction, it follows the natural anatomy and shows the nasopharynx, eustachian tube openings, larynx and vocal folds — areas a rigid scope reaches only with discomfort or not at all.
Why flexible beats rigid for these zones
Rigid endoscopes give superb images of the nasal cavity but stop where anatomy bends. The flexible scope passes further painlessly — which is why endoscopy of the nasopharynx with a fibroscope is the gold standard for diagnosing adenoid vegetations in children and for visualizing the vocal folds in voice disorders.
